What is a Professional Moai?
A Professional Moai is a group of approximately 5 to 10 participants who will meet to serve as peer mentors for each other, discussing professional development, career growth, and ways to overcome challenges in the
workplace. Women and men are welcome to participate.
What does the term Moai mean?
Moai means “meeting for a common purpose” in Japanese; pronounced (Mo-ai)
The Value of Professional Moais
- During the Inaugural Boston Women in Pharma® event in June 2018 attendees expressed they would find it valuable to have a small networking group to facilitate deeper and supportive networking relationships.
- The other Moai members can give you unbiased input on professional challenges or opportunities you may have.
- A group of positive supporters can go a long way to encourage your leadership confidence and development.

Moai Co-Leads
Approximate level of commitment for Moais in general: ~4 times a year to meet in person and/or virtually for group networking and discussion
Basics for Moai Co-leads
- Role of Co-lead: there are 2 or more co-leads per Professional Moai and they help organize and facilitate the get-togethers/discussions.
- Co-leads are able to share best practices and discussion topic ideas.
- Co-leads will have access to ISPE WIP sharepoint folder where we will create a shared “tool box” for ideas. There is also a LinkedIn group for Moai co-leads. (note: only ISPE member can be granted ISPE sharepoint access. If not an ISPE member, please consider joining today as tons of benefits!)
- There are lots of flexibility for Co-leads to tailor their Moai get togethers so will be both value added and enjoyable for members.
Moia Regions – Boston WIP
- Based on people’s preference for meeting near work or home locations, we grouped people together with the goal of making easy to meet in person
- Also, at least 2 people interested in being a co-lead in each Moai region.
